Do We Really Need Energetic Protection Anymore? Moving Beyond Fear and Into Embodied Awareness

There was a time on the spiritual path when energetic protection felt essential.

Many of us were taught to protect our energy using visualisations, crystals, Reiki symbols, white light bubbles, Saint Germain’s violet flame, smudging rituals, or creating energetic shields around the aura. (I have even taught all of these practices over the years!) These tools helped people feel safer, more grounded, and more aware of their energetic boundaries.

And for many people, those tools were supportive and necessary at that stage of awakening.

But what if part of the next level of spiritual growth is moving beyond protection that is rooted in fear?

What if the deepest healing comes not from building stronger walls around ourselves, but from transforming the unconscious fears that made us believe we were unsafe in the first place?

I have witnessed this shift deeply within myself and within many clients walking the path of spiritual awakening, nervous system healing, meditation, Reiki, and emotional transformation.

We are entering a new level of consciousness where embodiment matters more than avoidance.

The Old Paradigm of Energetic Protection

Many spiritual teachings focused on protecting yourself from:

  • Negative people

  • Heavy energy

  • Psychic attack

  • Emotional overwhelm

  • Crowded spaces

  • Toxic environments

And while awareness and discernment are important, sometimes protection practices can unknowingly reinforce fear.

If we constantly believe:

  • “Other people’s energy will drain me”

  • “I am unsafe around negativity”

  • “I need protection everywhere I go”

…then we are still feeding the frequency of fear into the nervous system and energetic field.

Fear contracts the body. Fear lowers our frequency. Fear creates resistance.

And resistance itself can become the very thing keeping us energetically entangled.

Awakening Is About Embodiment, Not Avoidance

True spiritual awakening is not about escaping humanity.

It is about learning how to remain connected to your own centre while life unfolds around you. It is the ability to witness unconsciousness without becoming unconscious yourself.

Imagine walking into a crowded family gathering, a sporting event, or a busy pub where conflict suddenly erupts.

Do you become the chaos? Do you absorb everyone else’s emotions? Or can you witness what is happening while staying connected to yourself? Can you remain grounded in your breath, your awareness, and your heart?

This is the shift many people are currently moving through.

Not spiritual bypassing.

Not pretending negativity does not exist.

But learning how to stay present without collapsing into fear, reactivity, or emotional absorption.

Your Nervous System Shapes Your Energetic Field

Many people think energetic sensitivity is purely spiritual.

But often, what we call “absorbing energy” is also connected to nervous system dysregulation, trauma responses, hypervigilance, and unconscious conditioning.

When the nervous system is constantly scanning for danger, the body interprets the world as unsafe.

This creates:

  • Emotional overwhelm

  • Anxiety

  • Energetic exhaustion

  • People pleasing

  • Difficulty maintaining boundaries

  • Feeling emotionally affected by everyone around you

Healing is not about becoming emotionally shut down or disconnected.

It is about becoming more embodied, regulated, conscious, and present.

This is where meditation, mindfulness, Reiki, breathwork, self-awareness, and nervous system healing become powerful tools for transformation.

Protection Can Become Resistance

Sometimes the energetic walls we build become subtle forms of resistance. And resistance can unintentionally keep old fears alive.

It is like trying to lock every door and window in a castle while unknowingly leaving the front gate wide open.

The fear itself becomes the opening.

Instead of asking:
“How do I protect myself from the world?”

Perhaps we begin asking:
“How do I become so deeply connected to myself that fear no longer controls my field?”

That is a very different frequency. That is embodiment.

We Are All Still Learning

One of the most healing parts of the awakening journey is dropping the spiritual ego. No one has all the answers. We are all evolving. We are all learning.

We are all uncovering deeper layers of conditioning, fear, unconscious patterns, trauma, and emotional wounds.

The spiritual journey is not about becoming “better” than others.

It is about becoming more conscious. More compassionate. More present.

And perhaps one of the bravest things we can do right now is speak honestly about the fact that awakening is messy, vulnerable, humbling, and deeply human.

3 Ways to Stay Aligned on Your Awakening Path

1. Create Daily Stillness Through Meditation

Meditation helps regulate the nervous system and reconnect you to your inner awareness.

Even 10 minutes a day can:

  • Calm emotional reactivity

  • Increase self-awareness

  • Strengthen intuition

  • Support emotional healing

  • Help you calmly respond instead of react

The more connected you are to yourself, the less likely you are to become consumed by external chaos.

2. Prioritise Self-Care and Emotional Nourishment

Self-care is not selfish. It is foundational. Have you ever been on a plane? Put the oxygen mask on YOURSELF first, this is self-care! And we are no good to anyone if we haven’t taken care of ourself first.

Your energy naturally shifts when you:

  • Rest your body

  • Move your body & release stagnant emotions

  • Spend time in nature

  • Nourish yourself with healthy food

  • Journal

  • Breathe deeply

  • Create boundaries

  • Honour your emotional needs

The more regulated and nourished your nervous system becomes, the more resilient your energetic field naturally feels.

3. Choose Higher Frequency Inputs

Everything you consume impacts your energy. Music. Conversations. Social media. News. Environments. People.

Begin consciously choosing what supports expansion, peace, creativity, healing, and love.

This may include:

  • High-frequency music

  • Guided meditations

  • Breathwork

  • Sound healing

  • Spiritual teachings or positive podcasts

  • Engaging with a positive & like hearted conscious community

  • Time offline & out in nature

  • Gratitude & forgiveness practices

Higher frequency living is not about perfection. It is about intention & action.

Final Thoughts: Perhaps We Were Never Meant to Live in Fear

Maybe the next phase of awakening is not building stronger energetic armour. Maybe it is softening. Trusting. Grounding.

Regulating the nervous system. Healing the unconscious mind.

And remembering that your greatest power does not come from fear-based protection.

It comes from embodiment. From presence. From awareness. From love.

The more connected you become to your authentic self, the less external chaos can pull you away from your centre.

And perhaps that is the true evolution of spiritual awakening.
